Abstract
This thesis examines the significance ofwomen in Puritan New England in the colonial era, with special focus on the 17th century. It analyses women’s typical roles in the family centred Puritan society. It demonstrates that although in Puritan New England women were not allowed to take an active role in the political, economic or religious life, they had important roles in the economy, culture and religion.
