Abstract

This thesis examines the punk rock in the 1970s. Punk was a youth sub culture that time, having an ideological notion which was about the do-it-yourself project (being individual). I will prove that this ideology failed when bands began to engage themselves with big music labels. I will demonstrate that punk’s alternation into mainstream music got inevitable as soon as the music industry realized the punk and its youth consumers could gain money.
