Abstract
"Why does language provide such a fascinating object of study? Perhaps because of its unique role in capturing the breadth of human thought and endeavour." (Crystal I) This thesis examines some of the oral and written activities that are used in the lower primary classroom to improve communicative competence. I will prove how important it is to use games in the English classroom to make the students learn the language in a playful way as acquisition is longer lasting than studying. In this thesis I will also be writing about the different Language Teaching Methods, the role of games in the language classroom, the main features of communicative activities and finally about my research in Deák Ferenc Primary School in Szentes.
