Abstract
The aim of my thesis is to demonstrate all the sound reasons be it political, economic or humanitarian behind the foundation and activity of Peace Corps. I will make an attempt to discuss the views and reasons for the success of the agency, along with investigating the source of commitment volunteers have possessed. The reader will be shown the tense political situation worldwide before the 1960s, the hidden economic interests on the part of the U.S. which all contributed to the motives behind the foundation. It seems worthwile to summarize the results the agency has achieved sofar, with an evaluation of the past 45 years seen from different aspects, which would provide an authentic picture of the Peace Corps, one of the most successful institutions the world has ever seen. The more so because it is still a perfect embodiment of the tradition of American service and compassion.
