Abstract
Nowadays it is very important to know a foreign language. English has become the dominant language of the Internet, music, films, sports, tourism, advertising, industry, commerce or business etc. With the increase of significance of international communication, the need of knowing this language is growing, too. But, for acquiring a foreign language we do not need only books, but a good teacher is also necessary. Who is a good English teacher? This is not am easy, but interesting question for me, that is why I have chosen this topic. The requirements of the ideal teacher has been changing from time to time. It depends on the people, places and the environment. In my thesis my aim was to find the best, the most appropriate characteristics for the ideal English teacher of today. I had read methodology books and I have done a research, too. (Students who learn English and language teachers answered my questions.) I compared descriptions of specialists and the conclusions of my research. As a result, I received the most important features of the ideal English teacher. I do not think that this type can ever be realized, because most of the time, we cannot step over our barriers, but it should be the aim, for which the English teachers fight for. I would like to prove that these characteristics are such features that everybody can develop, and with the help of these everybody can be a good teacher.
