Abstract

My thesis describes the main principles and practical methods of teaching vocabulary. Before testing students by X_Lex English Test, I clarify the meaning of two key concepts- knowledge of word and vocabulary ability. Throughout testing beginners (class 5) and school leavers (class 8) I would like to investigate the level of young learners' vocabulary knowledge and its development. Comparing them to the foreign language vocabulary requirements of the Hungarian National Core Curriculum and to CEF levels makes it possible to evaluate the effectivity and place of vocabulary teaching in primary schools.
