Abstract
Au pairing abroad can be a wonderful experience. People not only experience family life in a foreign environment, they get to travel, learn a good deal about children and their upbringing. Though, the most rewarding is, that they learn the language and experience a foreign culture. Since the topic of my thesis is rather unusual, I have found it important to make obscurities clear around au pairing. This may arouse some questions, such as who is an au pair, what regulations are there on an au pair, what is an au pair's life in the United Kingdom (UK), what does his or her job involve, and so on. In fact, an au pair's life is always demanding. But what are the challenges that she or he might encounter while working in Britain? My thesis is primarily based on my own and my fellow au pairs' experience. To sum up my and fellow au pairs' opinions and experience, I came to the conclusion that working as an au pair is an ideal way for young Hungarians to gain insight into British culture and also learn English.
