Abstract

This thesis intends to prove the importance of visual aids and the value of the communicative approach in today's EFL-teaching. I have wished to write about this topic because I am convinced that using adequate visual media embedded in the communicative approach can make English lessons more efficient, colourful and enjoyable for students. In the first section I will describe the theoretical background of foreign language teaching. In this section I will also write about the merits of the communicative approach and the introduction of new language structure. In the second section I will discuss the different learning styles, examples of visual aids, their advantages, usage and effectiveness in EFL-teaching. The third section focuses on the introduction of examples of communicative activities. I teach English and German for students aged from fourteen to eighteen in a secondary school. At the end of my thesis I will write briefly about my experience as an EFL-teacher.
