Abstract

The purpose of my thesis is the examination of new generation James Bond film adaptations featuring Daniel Craig through the concept of antiheroism. For the concept of antiheroism I will rely on David Simmons, Umberto Eco and Iain Thomson to show the relevance of this thesis on James Bond. The paper will offer case studies of four Bond films with a glance into computer game adaptations. By analyzing the Bond figure from an antiheroic concept in both movies and video games I hope to reach a statement about the character from a different perspective. James Bond is considered as an icon for the British, a hero who is in Her Majesty’s Secret Service and protects his country whatever it takes, however this continuous fight with the villains comes with a huge amount of victims which certainly questions the heroic aspect of Bond. Moreover, I would like to point out that despite his antiheroic figure, the audience can still identify with the agent.
