Abstract

In my thesis my aim is to show that the same fundamental human rights which could fully come true on the American frontier were totally destroyed in Orwell's negative utopia: 1984. With the first chapter I will prove that these characteristics for the new continent were true and that they were valid only before the American frontier came to an end. In the second chapter of my thesis I will show what negative utopia is, why and how this new form of fiction emerged and what formed its subject of analysis. In the third chapter of my thesis I will show the ways how the fundamental human rights are destroyed in Orwell's 1984. In the fourth, and last chapter I will show that the protagonist's inevitable fall means the inevitable fall of humanity.
