Abstract

In my thesis I will examine how the characters appearing in Waiting for Godot represent Beckett’s aim to portray the absurdity of mankind . Beckett’s drama is about mankind. He emphasised it on as many levels as a play can consist of. I interprete the techniques as levels appearing in the play. In the present thesis I will analyse relevant monologues and dialogues to reveal some techniques Beckett used in the play. I will observe the characters from the aspects oftheir relationship to each other; oftheir personalities to find the techniques Beckett used to portray mankind. In my thesis I will reveal the levels where Beckett used techniques and I will prove that they are to represent the whole mankind.
