Abstract

In my thesis I analyse the attitude of the USA towards the Kyoto Protocol. I am going to investigate the reasons why President George Bush withdrew from this international agreement, which was already signed by President Bill Clinton. I am going to describe the economic and social impact of the Protocol, which regulates greenhouse gas emissions. To help understand the impact of the Protocol on the US, I am going to describe the effects of the 1973-oil embargo on the US. My aim is to prove that President Bush acted properly when he withdrew from the Protocol, otherwise the widespread impact of the treaty would have harmed the economy of the US and would have had disadvantageous effects on many aspects of people's - chiefly on low and middle class citizen's - lives.
