Abstract

It is a well-known fact all around the world that the American people are great patriots. Many painters contributed to the development of this sentiment through their paintings. In my thesis I will examine and prove that the works of the chosen artists (Archibald M Willard, John Trumbull and Emanuel Leutze) contributed to the development of patriotism in the United States of America. I will examine the historical events that were depicted by the artists and I will analyze the paintings in order to demonstrate that the chosen painters expressed the notion of patriotism without the crutch of words. My thesis also includes the photocopy illustrations of their works for the reader.
