Abstract

The study discussed in this thesis examines motivation of children in English teaching. I begin my inquiry by outlining the theoretical base of motivation. First I consider it generally, give defmitions and summarise the main theories about it. Then my thesis focuses on motivational characteristics of 10 and 14-year-old learners. My main purpose is to identify differences in motivation of pupils at the beginning and at the end of primary education. I point out some basic motivational principles, this way I gain a better understanding of the relationship between children's developmental features, theories about motivation and real teaching processes.
