Abstract

This thesis examines why the English Civil War can be divided into three periods and what Oliver Cromwell's role was in them. I will prove why he was a prominent person of these wars, militarily and politically as well; and in parallel with this I will describe his military and political career as well as his private life. My thesis is mostly based on English historians' works, but I used a few Hungarian books as well. Beside the books I used an audio-visual instrument for my topic: a documentary about the English Civil War.
