Abstract

This thesis was written to examine the changing image of the USA in Hungary and the factors which formulate it. My hypothesis was that the press played a decicive role in this process. I studied and analysed articles of the printed press of different years andcompared the changes. My choice of the years was defined by the hypothesis that there have been substantial changes in the freedom of the press over the studied period. Besides the articles I conducted a survey to find out about the present state of the American image. The findings have proved that my hyothesis was right and the changing image of Americahasbeen greatly influenced by a changing attitude of the changing press and the various types ofthe media in the present.
