Abstract

The main aim of this paper is to determine the method of language teaching and vocabulary building which is more effective in case of young learners. To answer the question: is the traditional way of language teaching or situation and communication exercises using storytelling activities more successful? The investigation is based on the achievements of two classes belonging to aform of five. There is no significant difference between the school achievements of the two classes and their general knowledge. In order to get a clear view I have examined not only the family background of the pupils and the foreign language skills of the parents, but also how the language skills of the parents affect the language selection of their children and, moreover, the success of their children's language learning. Using a questionnaire, I have tried to determine the learning strategies and types of the children and its effect on their achievements. On the basis of this investigation, we can change the language teaching method of school education in a way which is better not only for the class, but also for every single pupil.
