Abstract

This thesis examines how the relationship between theBritish Royal Familyand the press has changedin the twentieth century. My intention is to prove that from the 1970s significant changes have happened in their relationship due to several factors. These are the intense rivalry of the tabloids, the unbridled freedom of the press in the United Kingdom and the changing face of the monarchy. In my thesis I am going to illustrate that throughout these transformation the press and the royals have built up a symbiotic relationship, in which they need to co-operate so that both of them could sustain successfully.
