Abstract

This diploma work is concerned with the connection between romantic poetry and the modem musical trend, Heavy Metal. Its main aim is to reveal the correspondences between the attidude of the authors and musicians, on the one hand, and the similar characteristics of the society of the age of romanticism and our age, on the other hand. In the thesis I will prove that romantic poets and poems have influenced many Heavy Metal bands either in a direct or an indirect way. Searching for evidences for the suppositions in relation to the topic, I will analyse the typical features of the personality of the authors and their works as well, and so, I will draw parallels between the works of romanticism and Metal. Supporting my discussion I will provide the most important lyrics and music of the bands in the appendices, too.
