Abstract

This thesis examines two pieces of English literature, one from the 19th century and one from the 20th century. I will show that the differences between R. M. Ballantyne's The Coral Island (1858) and William Golding's Lord of the Flies (1954) are due to the differences of the ages they were created in. I will show the historical periods and then I will demonstrate that although there are some similarities in the two novels, they are totally different.
