Abstract

This thesis is about teaching reading skills to young learners through comics and stories. It consists of two main parts. The first section, the theoretical background summarizes the special characteristics of stories and comics. Besides, it will examine the motivating effect they have onstudents, then some ideas are presented how comic strips can be used to develop children's reading skills. The second part presents my personal experiences and the results of questionnaires filled in by teachers and students. Based on the findings of my research, I will prove that comics and stories generate a positive effect on pupils' motivation.
