Abstract

This paper examine the reasons why parks need to be established and why parks are important. The first part is about the foundation of National Parks and the organization of National Park Service in America. Here I will emphasize John Muir's leading role in the national park movement. The following ones show three American National Parks: Mesa Verde, Canyonlands and Arches. With the presentation of three parks I illustrate how they can teach visitors about history, people, culture, how they bring people close to nature and how some parks serve the public as recreational opportunities. Finally I will give some ideas of how I can use this material about American National Parks during the language lessons in the primary class.
