Abstract

The following work is an attempt to take the reader closer to south-African history. From the general description of the African tribes, weget to Shaka, the ruthless founder of the Zulu nation and empire. We can follow the process of building up an empire, we can follow how a clan extended and developed to the level of a nation. What Shaka achieved, was the result of his having been a military genious, so mainly through the army he helped his nation rise. Because of his cruelty and agressive behaviour no one dared to confront him. His rule was widely accepted and the small clan turned to be a nation.
