Abstract

In my thesis I would like to prove that the title role of the novel Ivanhoe could be only one person, Ivanhoe. I use the characteristic features of the historical novel summarised by György Lukács which is the basis of my thesis paper. In the first chapter I am writing about the origins of the historical novels, in the second about the features of Scott's historical novels and about the successful writer. The third chapter deals with the origins of the novel Ivanhoe and the final with the description of five characters (Richard I, Robin Hood, Rebecca, Brian de Bois Guilbert and Ivanhoe) of the novel.
