Abstract

Although The Star-Child written by Oscar Wilde is a literary tale, it can be regarded as a folk-tale. In order to prove this, first I will examine all those characteristics ofthis literary tale, which are typical offolk-tales. Furthermore I will demonstrate that this tale can be classified according to the international folk-tale catalogue. Finally, I will apply a folk-tale analysis, namely Bruno Bettelheim's psychoanalytical method, so I will analyse The Star-Child using psychoanalytical principles.
