Abstract

In everyday life we come across a lot ofsigns, logos and symbols as we walk in the street, watch TV, talk to people, listen to music or go to the theatre. This happens when we look at a map or we drive on the roads. Every sign has a meaning and there must be an associated meaning that everybody accepts and understands. Traffic signs also need understanding and decoding but they were created in a way so that they stand as close as X possible to the phenomena indicated. But if they do so, the differences ofthe two cultures must be seen in their signing system. Under the differences ofthe two cultures I mean the followings: -everyday life differences (measuring systems, used vehicles) -road network differences (number ofroads, type ofthe roads) -traditions in signing (shapes ofthe plates, placing the plates) -focus on young population (emphasis on protecting school children) I will compare the signs one by one if necessary and ifthey have equivalent.
