Abstract

Agatha Christie is the most widely read writer in our time. She was not only a brilliant creator of puzzles but also a real novelist, with an ability to create fully rounded characters, compelling situations with sophisticated humour and sometimes familiar another times astonishingly peculiar and exotic scenes. The purpose of my work is searching for sources of these elements and demonstrating my idea that the characters, scenes and situations in the main originate from her life. The most expedient method is quoting a few examples in her detective stories, and surveying the historical background. I examine closely three novels from this point of view and I touch a few other ones, which are suitable to demonstrate rightness of my assertion. At the end of my work the supposition, that Agatha Christie's stories are based on the real life, prove to be true.
