Abstract
For my thesis work I have collected English phrases in connection with animals and compared them to Hungarian phrases of the same topic. I will examine them structurally and semantically and group them according to the aspects of Csaba Földes and Helmut Kühnert. Originally these professors analysed German and Hungarian phrases with this method; in my thesis I will try to apply their method to compare English and Hungarian phrases. The phrases I could group into the sections defined by the above mentioned professors, show that there are phrases either of identical structure or of identical meaning or - and this is the most relevant fact - of identical structure and meaning. Considering that English and Hungarian are not related languages and that there were not any historical connections between the languages, the result is remarkable. As the framework of a thesis is limited, I am not able to examine the phrases' historical or cultural origin and compare them on the basis of this.
