Abstract

The purpose of this thesis work is to make an attempt at describing the development of the lyrical style of the British pop group Depeche Mode in terms of how the different aspects of love are reflected in their songs. The tendency to be proved defines a movement from the physical aspects to the religious references of love and is identified by analysing the lyrics of three songs serving as representative samples from a certain period of the history of the band. The lyrics are examined individually from different points of views such as symbolism, poetic or religious references and the metaphors embedded in them.
