Abstract

This thesis intends to examine the use of national parks in the United States as tools for education. In the thesis I will demonstrate that national parks can be used to present a variety of subjects for elementary school children (aged 6-14) and therefore can play a crucial role in education. The statement will be proved by using recently updated official websites, newspaper articles, books, reports and interviews with national parks staff on the issues of elementary school education, outdoor education, the concept of national parks as classrooms, psychological and methodological aspects of the topic.
