Abstract

The present thesis deals with certain issues related to the death penalty in the United States. I am going to examine whether capital punishment can fulfill the demands made on it in the present circumstances. I am going to point out what these demands are, with the help of psychological and criminological theories. Investigating the present circumstances and some influential changes concerning the death penalty, and considering the key arguments both for and against it, I will conclude that capital punishment cannot fulfill these demands.
