Abstract

This thesis examines the combination of various kinds of genres in a fantastic comedy called A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. I will prove that this play involves several genres from the field of literary form of Drama, for instance, Ritual drama, mystery plays, Interludes. From the world of comedies it combines the genres of Farce, Court Masque and Occassional drama. In the beginning of the chapters I will describe the different genres in generally, then analyse their appearances in the play. I am going to use quotations to support my statements, and in the last chapter I will demonstrate the theatrical stage conditions in the Elizabethan Age and the theatrical peculiarities in the play in order to exhibit the presences of the genres on stage.
