Abstract

This thesis examines the concept of music in Middle-earth through the works of J. R. R. Tolkien. I will prove that it is possible to compose authentic music to the world of Middle-earth. Using references from The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and The Silmarillion, reviews of the works and focusing on attempts to develop Middle-earth music, I will demonstrate that a principle can be formed how to compose authentic music to the works of Tolkien.
