Abstract
This thesis examines some works of the American painter, Ben Shahn, from the thirties - t untiltil the late fifties. I will try to analyse that his subject matters and his visual language altered within this period. I will prove that this alteration was due to the shocking effects of World War II. I will also try to point out the differences between Shahn's works and the American contemporary artistic trends.
