Abstract

The main topic of this thesis is American beat literature. Using contemporary articles, essays and novels, I gave an outline of the cultural, political and social background of the United States in the middle of the twentieth century. I described the characteristics of beat literature by interpreting three poems by Allen Ginsberg who was the most popular poet of that era. I examined the features of the following poems: Howl, Kaddish, My Sad Self. These poems show objection to non-conformism and they seem to ignore any rules.
