Abstract

This thesis examines the spread of Ossianic poetry across Europe from 1762 until the 1850s. I am writing about the question of the authorship, what was Macpherson's role in the translation of the Ossianis poems and what was the reception of the poems like in Macpherson's mother country and abroad. Showing the effect of the Ossianic poetry, I will demonstrate that Ossian was a forerunner of Romanticism.
