Abstract

This thesis examines the similarities and differences in Jane Austen's and Elizabeth Gaskell's works and point of view. Using earlier and contemporary literature and the texts of their novels, I will compare their works and analyse two of them. My aim is to prove that Elizabeth Gaskell carried on the cultural heritage of Jane Austen and expanded her circle of observation, influenced by the Victorian era.
